Guatemala, a small Central American country bordering Mexico, and the southern African nation of Zambia may be thousands apart, but one thing links them.
Aid International has been sending Build Teams to both countries for many years, in partnership with Gifts of Love International (Guatemala) and Africa Enterprise Trust (Zambia).
In both cases, the work centres on getting orphaned children off the street, and Aid International has been instrumental in getting two homes up and running in Lusaka, as well as developing a 26 acre site in Guatemala.
The work is varied and is often not decided until soon before the Team arrives, to ensure that the most vital needs are met. You might be putting a new roof onto an orphanage or building a perimeter wall to keep the property secure, fitting a bathroom or kitchen, or simply repainting someone’s bedroom.
The important thing is that there is a job for everyone, no matter what your experience. You’ll never be asked to do something you’re not confident doing, and you’ll have plenty of training and support.
Best yet, you’ll be working alongside local people to make a difference that you’ll see with your own eyes. You can’t helped but be changed by an experience like that.
